Coming Down the Home Stretch - Spring Break, Prom & Graduation!!!
OK, High School Seniors, we all know you're about to reach a milestone in your young life - graduating and moving on in life. There are a couple of events in which you might be participating before you graduate, like Spring Break and the Prom.
If you'll be going to the sunny climes of Florida, Padre Island or Cancun for Spring Break, then your body needs to be prepared for the hot sun, particularly if you're going there white as a sheet without a base tan. You need to read up on how to get a tan without suffering through a miserable sunburn those first couple days out! (This actually applies to everybody that's going to be outside in a hot climate area for the first time since last summer).
Then there's the liquor issue at Spring Break, the Prom and Graduation. You're not of legal age, but your parents went through the same thing at that point in their life (or when the legal age was 18), so it's no big secret that you know how to get liquor. We'll assume, then, that you and liquor have already met, but it's how you handle it that becomes the issue.
That's where Lom's Words comes in as a guidebook to help you navigate safely through these issues over the next several weeks (and the rest of your life, for that matter)!
"College! Lom's Continuing Words of Wisdom About College Life" is a MUST-READ for both parents and students!
Would you embark on a world tour without a reliable travel guide? These young men and women stand on the threshold of a whole new world that will be opening up to them. Lom's Words is the best guidebook on the market today for the college campus world, providing relevant information and advice on issues that will confront them in some form or fashion virtually every day of their lives over the next 4-5 years (and beyond in some cases).
Some of the real-life issues addressed in the book include:
- Getting a DUI (and the Consequences)
- Binge Drinking (and the Consequences)
- Date-rape Drugs
- Tanning (especially during Spring Break and the Spring Semester!)
- Gambling (The bookies manage to find their targets on campus)
- Tattoos and Body Art
- Obtaining Credit Cards
- Good Hygiene (It's an issue, believe it or not)
Want to see how schools rank in academics? Learn about college tuition costs and fees? Figure out how to finance a college education? Look somewhere else. There are plenty of good Web sites and books on those subjects. This book is about survival and how to tackle those thorny issues that students inevitably face. Consider it a heads-up to what's happening on college campuses, fraternities, sororities, and dorm rooms across the country.
This book will help students enjoy their college years while skirting the traps, pitfalls, and "oh-crap!" experiences that can ruin lives before just when they've barely left the nest. Don't learn the hard way; take some friendly, practical advice from Lom and the many college students and parents that shared their own experiences with him.
Parents, especially, can read this book and pass it down to their son or daughter, and take comfort in knowing that they're receiving real, down-to-earth guidance on college life. Of all the thousands of dollars worth of books you college students will read over the next four or five years, this will turn out to be the one of the most important in terms of quality of life.
The 3rd Edition is available at the bargain price of $14.99, including Shipping and Handling (see the Book Orders page).
If you're in the mood to pose some questions or answers, Lom's Blog can easily be found on this web site, too; and I'll be posting some questions and polls for all the students, everything to which team they think will play for the BCS Championship to what class or professor is routinely the most liked or hated at school.
Finally, all of you readers are welcome to email me with comments about the book or the hot topics of the day. I'm always looking for feedback, especially on personal experiences.
Happy reading and hopefully some piece of advice in the book will benefit one of you readers in the coming years.
